FOTOS VIAJE DE ESTUDIOS A CANTERBURY

Curso 2018-19

  1. CANTERBURY (UK)
The language school organised a trip to Canterbury (from 3rd March to 10th March 2019) for the school English students. First of all, I would like to point out some features of this wonderful city located in the County of Kent (England). Canterbury lies on the river Stour, it is about 2,000 years old and the population is about 70,000. Moreover, it has the oldest boarding school in the world, the biggest city gate in Britain and the oldest church in the English speaking world. What is more, the first cathedral to be built in England was built in Canterbury and the Cathedral, St Augustine´s Abbey and St Martin´s church make up Canterbury´s World Heritage Site. It is also important to mention that archbishop Thomas Becket was murdered in the Cathedral and then it became an important pilgrimage centre. Furthermore, it has one of the most famous books written by Geoffrey Chaucer: “The Canterbury Tales”.
Personally, I think it was an amazing experience and there are several reasons for this. First, Canterbury is a fantastic city because it is a quiet place but at the same time, you can find many things to do, for instance: visit the museums and the historical sites like the Westgate Towers, The Canterbury Tales, Canterbury Cathedral, St Augustine´s Abbey and so on. You can also walk in the city centre, which is car-free, and have a nice time shopping, eating out and going into the Canterbury historic river tours. In the evening, we could attend salsa lessons and had a nice time dancing.
Another significant point were the English lessons that we had at Concorde International (the school). We had our lessons from Monday to Friday and the teachers did their best to help us boosting our English skills. In the class, there was a mix of nationalities, so we could practise our English with different English students. I would like to add that the homestay accommodation was a rewarding experience because we could improve our English end enjoy the life in a British home.
Apart from this, we visited Whitstable, a seaside town near Canterbury that is famous for its oysters, the chalets and the harbour. We had the opportunity to eat one of the best fish and chips and take many pictures with the colourful seaside chalets. We also visited Dover Castle and the White Cliffs. Despite the windy day, we enjoyed the castle and learn about these fortifications that had protect the English coast throughout history. Finally, we moved to London and spent the day walking in the streets and seeing the most important monuments and buildings of the city.
So all in all it has been a wonderful experience, we have learnt many things and we enjoyed each moment of our trip and, for me, that is the most important thing.
Ana, Mar, thank you very much for making this experience possible.

    Irene
